Fall is the time for bonfires, walks in the rain, cozy sweaters, and colorful trees. Weekends are for football and family time. We’ve put together a list of some of our favorites and things that we want to do before the snow starts to fly.
- We loved the Arboretum in the summer. Fall is the perfect time to head back. Look for trees from every state and learn more about them with the Stately Treasures app.
- Build your own fall backyard oasis. WS Jenks and Sons will have everything you need. Don’t forget to check out the farm on the roof and even see a chicken!
- This is the perfect time to begin journaling. Check out Zenit Journals made right here in our own neighborhood. Get mommy or daddy and me journals and make journaling part of family time. If your little one is too young to write, they can still draw those feelings.
- This is the perfect time for an outdoor movie. Tanner Park has them every Wednesday through November 10.
- It is also the perfect time for outdoor dining. Check out one of our favorites or find your own favorite (and email us to share your find).
- Rainy days don’t mean that you have to sit in front of the TV all day, not that there is anything wrong with that. Brookland Boulders has climbing facilities for all ages and is sure to cure the rainy-day blues.
- Don’t want to leave the house? Have an activity book on hand from Everything is Magical. The author lives here too and her book is perfect for keeping little hands busy on the days you just want to stay home.
- Take a walking tour. Off the Mall Tours has some great ones through the end of November.
- Walk around Union Market. There are so many cool things to notice. Mac Kid has her eye on a few plants to purchase there.
- Spend an hour or a day at a museum. One of the beauties of DC is that all of the Smithsonian Museums are free. We are partial to the Postal Museum but there are many to choose from.
- Buy the freshest of produce at the H Street FreshFarm Market. There is a good chance that you will run into us either at a table or buying our own produce.
- Buy a book. We love looking for our next favorite book and reading it at the park.
- Nosh on some pre-Halloween candy. Capital Candy Jar won’t disappoint.
- Check out the pole vaulters at the DC Vault Halloween Vault. The facility in the shadow of RFK Stadium is a hidden gem in our city. You will wonder how the athletes can jump that high.
- Get out of the city and enjoy the fall foliage at Skyline Drive. There are plenty of hiking trails and even a waterfall. You never know what kind of animals you may see. We have run into deer, a bear, and even a bobcat all from the safety of our car.
Did we leave your favorite off of the list? Send us an email and we will be sure to check it out.
