Brooklyn Boulders in Eckington

Climbing the walls

By Anita September 30, 2021

From the time Mac Kid was walking, she needed to climb. One of her complaints has been that there has not been a climbing facility close enough to visit regularly. Brooklyn Boulders Eckington changes that.

Their goal is to change the world of climbing to be inclusive, friendly, and educational. The curriculum is being designed to instill healthy habits, self-awareness, and life skills. At most gyms, kids’ programs are about playing games or learning a specific sport, but at Brooklyn Boulders they want to create a culture that revolves around accepting each unique individual, learning to fail, and supporting one another. In addition, Brooklyn Boulders is working hard to create programs that are accessible to the local community by bringing in local schools during Physical Education class, free climbing experiences for youth, and using a sliding scale membership program. They would like everyone to experience climbing at least once, if not, join our community for a lifetime. It just opened so we have not been there yet but it seems like there is a lot to love. You can see below the great programs that they offer and you may even see us there at a birthday party.

Educational Climbing Programs

Kids Academy (1-class $39, 10-pack $375)

  • Participants will climb throughout the facility, experiencing lessons in technical climbing skills for bouldering and off-the-wall educational activities, alongside our BKB Instructors. Climbers will have the opportunity to reach new heights and engage with peers in a fun, socially-distanced environment!

Adventure Days ($119)

  • Adventure Days are 8-hour programs that occur on school holidays, school field trips, or through private bookings. Through climbing, team-building exercises, and S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) activities, BKB Adventure Days will teach your kid how to be big-hearted, open-minded, and prepared for the world ahead.

Leadership Academy (Pricing TBD)

  • The leadership academy is designed for middle and high school students to transfer skills learned through rock climbing to their daily life. Using a leadership toolkit specifically designed by BKB, the instructors will adapt the curriculum to work within the context of the students in the program. The programming will work with the students to develop short- and long-term goals, and then working on knowledge and skill-building that guide students through a self-reflective process.
