Treat Tuesday

Goodies for All Ages

By Anita September 8, 2022

Yoo-hoo. Would you like a popsicle? If you were in the 500 block of East Capitol Street NE on Tuesday, you probably heard that friendly greeting. Connie, the wife of the pastor of the Capitol Hill Baptist Church was at her usual Tuesday spot welcoming everyone to have a popsicle or take some school supplies.

You can find Connie on most Tuesdays in her yard at 508 East Capitol giving out the treat of the week. This was started in March of 2020. It gave families a chance to get out and have a treat during the time when practically everything was closed.

Each week has a theme. Past themes have included National Parks and winter wonderland. We enjoyed a mango popsicle and the kid got a school folder.

The best part of this is that it is Connie’s gift to the community. She doesn’t ask for your email address or how to contact you. She doesn’t ask for donations. She doesn’t pressure people to attend her church. She just joyfully provides a treat to everyone walking by which includes up to 150 people per week.

It is such a fun casual way to spend some time with other community families and enjoy a treat. We are sure to stop by more often and are very excited to see what theme she chooses next.
