Driving into Fall

August 26, 2022

This summer flew by. It is hard to believe that the kid goes back to school next week and it has caught us by surprise. We have been scrambling to buy uniforms and school shoes since she grew considerably over the summer. We have tried many different sizes of shoes but we are getting close to finding ones that work.

We have also been trying to make the most of the last days of our summer break. We’ve spent a lot of time in Frederick, MD this summer. If you want a quick get away to a quaint little town, Frederick is the answer. The kid did a day camp there so we ended up staying in a hotel and the parents hung out while the kid did camp. We were able to spend the day antiquing and went to high tea, enjoying a day date on our own. Things in Frederick that we did as a family and highly recommend are the popcorn shop, the Pop Shop, and walking along the canal and enjoying the fountains and sculptures.

We also spent an evening at the Roll-Top Observatory at Turner Farm in Virginia. This was one of the coolest things that we did all summer. It is open to the public on Fridays during the summer and it will amaze you. None of us had ever viewed Saturn’s rings before and seeing the stars through the large telescopes was simply breathtaking. This is only for kids 8 and above and those kids will likely love it. At one point our kid was on her phone. Mom was initially irritated until she realized that the kid was busy downloading the apps that the scientists had on their phones to find the stars so that she could do it at her grandparents’ house.

One of the last things that we did to round out our summer was monster golf in Gaithersburg. The kid went there on a field trip during one of her summer camps and loved it so much that she wanted to share it with the family. She recommended that we dress in as much white as possible and we did. It was so cool to watch our clothes glow under the black lights on the golf course. We also did the laser maze which was super fun and then spent way too much time in the arcade but the kid did earn enough tickets to get the prize that she wanted.

We are excited for fall to start. We have so many things on the horizon. We will be attending a hot air balloon festival, we have started planning our apple picking trip, and are mapping out how to enjoy our local National Parks like the Arboretum. But first, we will add another handprint to our school year board. This week we will share how we created it.

We hope your summer has been enjoyable and that your fall plans are starting to take shape too. If you know of any fall activities that are can’t miss events, please share with us!

Hugs and Love,

Chris and Anita
