Angelika Pop-up Theater in DC

A Microcinema Experience

By Anita March 10, 2022

We walked into Angelika not knowing what to expect. We were immediately greeted with a cheerful welcome. Although mom downloaded the app, since we didn’t know what to expect, we waited until we got to the theater to buy our tickets. Next time we will purchase them on the app ahead of time.

There were two movies playing that night. Both were PG-13 so best for the tween and up age group. If you buy tickets at the door, you will choose your seats on a screen. A microcinema means that the theaters are small. Every seat was a good seat. We were then asked if we wanted to purchase snacks. The kid opted for popcorn and a can of soda. Mom chose Funky Chunky Popcorn and a Coke with Coffee (this is her favorite soda and it is surprisingly good). Dad opted for nachos and cheese and a normal coke. We also had the option to purchase ice cream, wine, and beer.

There are three screens at the theater. The weekend we went had mainstream movies but they also sometimes show ones that you wouldn’t see at a normal theater. We went early in the day so tickets were $9 each. The adult tickets would have been $12 if we had gone in the evening or $11 if we went on a weeknight.

Masks are highly recommended and the theater asks that you do not arrive more than 30 minutes before your showtime so that it does not get too crowded.

This theater was cozy and comfortable. It reminded mom of the theater that she went to as a kid but smaller. We will be back again.
