Mom used to travel for work all the time. Some months, she spent more time outside of DC than she did in the city. Pre-kid, that worked well. Dad could stay home with the dog and mom worked on her career. Then we got very lucky and we finally had a kid. Our priorities changed and mom had no desire for business trips. Finally, in 2020, mom decided that she might be ready to travel every once in a while.
That plan was quickly squashed as we quarantined for two years. Mom and the kid spent a lot of time together. Much of that time was watching movies at home. But then mom’s job told her that it would be good for her to go to a conference in Phoenix. She will be home today.
The kid and dad were on their own for three whole days. They both missed mom but had their fun (and won’t tell mom how late they stayed up or how big the ice cream Sundays were).
Before mom left, she wanted to do something special with the kid. Going to a movie theater seemed like the perfect choice. There was an action-packed kid-appropriate movie, popcorn, soda, and other snacks, and dad came too. It was our first time to the movies since she was six. We loved it and it was the perfect evening to get in a few cuddles and then go grocery shopping.
The kid has missed mom and mom probably won’t go on another work trip for quite a while but it was good for everyone.
Hugs and love,
Chris and Anita
