The Great Outdoors

March 3, 2022

The days lately have been absolutely beautiful. Cold but beautiful. It is the time of year when you want to don a sweatshirt and a hat and soak up the sun. For us, the question becomes, where do we go?

With over 30 National Parks in the District of Columbia, a National Park was the obvious choice. Many of the park are free like the one that we went to most recently. Others are free to Veterans so make sure that you take your Veteran ID with you and they will give you a lifetime national park pass.

We purchased National Park passports with the kid having the junior passport. Each National Park has a stamp pad, usually at their visitor center where you can stamp your passport. They are a fun way to remember your trips. Our family wants to eventually visit all of the parks so it also helps keep track of where you have been (except for mom, she dropped her original passport into a storm drain and had to start over). If you don’t want to buy the official book, you could also do a craft activity with your kids and make your own passports. That would be a fun souvenir as well.

Our park this week was the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. They are very brown this time of year. Don’t let that hold you back from going though. The flowers may not be in bloom but the beavers are busy and the birds are amazing.

We hope you also have a weekend adventure and get a chance to feel the sun.

Hugs and Love,

Chris and Anita
