Holiday Trains Display

The US Botanical Gardens Continues a Tradition

By Anita December 2, 2021

Do you have a train loving kid? Are you like Mac Dad and not so secretly love trains yourself? Do you like free holiday activities? If you answered yes, the US Botanical Gardens is the place for you. For many years, the US Botanical Gardens have hosted a train display. This year they have taken the trains outside.

Every day from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm except for on Christmas, you can visit the train display at the Botanical Gardens. There are no tickets needed and there are plenty of signs so you know exactly where to go. Our family was there slightly before 10:00 on a Monday morning and we were the only ones there.

There are several trains that run through a variety of scenes including:  an orange grove, a cranberry bog, terrace farming, hillside farming, indoor vertical farming, coffee-banana-sweet potato cropping system, sorghum-millet-cowpea cropping, an olive grove, a potato farm, an onion farm, a rooftop urban farm, an artichoke farm, and a wheat and corn farm.

This display was amazing. There were trains overhead, trains going over bridges, trains going around farms, trains in cranberry bogs, and more trains everywhere. We got there right before the turned on the trains and it was so exciting to hear the first clacking of all the trains. We cold have spent hours looking at the very intricate displays. The only thing that held us back was the improper and not very warm footwear of mom. This is one spot that we plan to visit again and would love to visit many times.

We are so fortunate to have such an amazing display so close by and for free. Train loving kids of all ages will be in heaven here.
