Secrets of Capitol Hill

Take a Tour with Off the Mall Tours

July 21, 2021

Mac Dad is a really hard person to buy a gift. If you ask him what he wants, he will tell you that he doesn’t want anything at all. But Mac Kid couldn’t give him nothing for father’s day. A trip to a local bookstore yielded the book “Secret Washington, DC. A Guild to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure.” This really was the perfect gift for him. When we travel, we like to visit weird things like a giant coffee pot or a museum of radios. We later found out that there was going to be a tour of Capitol Hill which featured this section of the book. Our excitement was off the charts.

It all happens on August 12th. Tour guide Katie Kirkpatrick of Off the Mall Tours and local author JoAnn Hill will partner to bring you a walking tour around Capitol Hill to divulge some surprising facts and secrets. JoAnn's book "Secret Washington, DC - Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure," shares over 80 little-known sights and curiosities around the DMV. They are super cool! We don’t want to ruin the surprises but they include hidden bathtubs, dinosaur discoveries, tales of murderous jealousy, and more. Fun for the whole family, this tour will take you on a fascinating journey from the southern end of the Hill up to Union Station. An optional visit to the Buffalo and Bergen restaurant completes the tour. There are other cool looking tours by Off the Mall Tours but this is the only walking tour that features our own neighborhood. This two-hour tour costs $45 per adult and $30 for kids. If you miss it, you will miss out. Post a photo on our Facebook page after the tour for a chance to win a Macaroni Kid gift basket.
