Star Spangled S’mores

A classic treat with a patriotic twist

By Anita June 30, 2021

We love our backyard firepit and even more on nights like the fourth of July. Once the National fireworks are done, we can start the fire (ours has a propane tank so there isn’t much to get it started, just push a button) and enjoy the neighborhood fireworks that folks put off around Lincoln and other parks and alleys. We were shopping with Mac Grandma and she bought us a package of white candy bars with red and blue cookie crumbles which became the inspiration for these all-American snacks.

Ingredients:

Graham Crackers

White chocolate bars with red and blue cookie crumbles

Red white and blue marshmallows

White chocolate chips

Patriotic sprinkles

Instructions:

Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for one minute on medium power. Continue to melt in 30 second increments until it is smooth when stirred. Break the graham cracker in half and spread a little of the melted chocolate on the top of one half of the graham crackers being careful not to spread it to the edges (you will need a little room for your fingers to hold the s’more). While the chocolate is still melted, shake the sprinkles on the chocolate and then let them cool until the chocolate is hard. If you are in a hurry, you can place them in the fridge or freezer but don’t leave them in too long or the crackers will get soggy when they return to room temperature. Adding the sprinkles is a great step for the kids to do. We had a lot of fun trying different kinds and making different patterns. Then take everything outside. Break the chocolate bar into the size of the graham crackers and place it on the bottom cracker. Then toast the marshmallows on the fire. Be very careful with this part. Hot marshmallows can burn clothes and fingers. Once it is toasted to your liking, put it on top of the chocolate without removing the stick. Then top with the decorated cracker, squeeze it all together, hold on, and pull out the stick. The enjoy! It is messy so we usually have wet paper towels to clean up the yummy mess.
